Bio
Jason Chu was born in Regina, Saskatchewan but have grown up in Hong Kong, China for most of his life. At age 15, he left behind his family, friends, and home to return back to Canada hoping to relive the Canadian parts of himself that he had missed long ago. Throughout his life being a dual-citizen brought a lot of confusion and inner turmoil. His works surround the themes of solidarity, lostness, and conflict. Even through lostness and conflict, Chu, as an artist and a person, can always seem to find beauty in every perspective.
Chu is a 2019 University of Alberta graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts and English. He was the second visual arts major to win the Augustana Faculty Medal in Fine Arts. In his final year, he also became the Critique's Choice Award recipient and his piece "5 Years" now hangs in the University as part of its collection. Throughout Chu's university career, he earned 3 Augustana Faculty Fine Arts Awards in Studio Art; but to Chu, his legacy and friendships are the real rewards in life.
When Chu isn't in the studio, you can find him in the mountains embracing the subliminal views through the lens of his camera.
Nowadays, Chu is working towards becoming a naval communicator/sonar operator for the Royal Canadian Navy.
